The CFTRI has invited farmers, startups, and food entrepreneurs to make use of the state-of-the-art millet processing and value addition facilities at its Centre of Excellence on Millets and Incubation Centre (COEMIC).
In line with the national mission to promote millets and strengthen millet-based entrepreneurship, the COEMIC at CFTRI is offering its facilities for utilisation by farmers, Farmer Producer Organisations, Self Help Groups, cooperatives, startups, MSMEs, food processors, entrepreneurs, and research organisations, said a statement here on Friday.
“The COEMIC provides end-to-end processing solutions under one roof — from the cleaning of raw grains to the production of high-value, consumer-ready millet products — enabling users to access modern food-processing technologies without investing in costly infrastructure,” the statement said.
The COEMIC offers comprehensive primary millet processing facilities designed to cater to commercial-scale operations. The Minor Millet Processing Plant is equipped to undertake cleaning and grading, dehusking, polishing, separation with optional colour sortex, and packaging, with a processing capacity of up to 2,000 kg per day.
The Sorghum (Jowar) and Pearl Millet (Bajra) Processing Facility provides end-to-end processing, including cleaning and grading, pre-processing, pearling/polishing, flour production, and packaging. The facility can process up to 2,000 kg per day, making it suitable for large-scale production, the statement said.
For finger millet, the centre has a dedicated Ragi Processing Facility that performs cleaning and destoning, pre-processing, milling, separation with optional colour sortex, and packaging, with a processing capacity of 500 kg per day.
The centre also houses a modern Roller Flour Milling Facility for millet grains, where cleaning, destoning, pre-processing, milling, separation, and packaging are carried out efficiently. The unit has a processing capacity of up to 3,000 kg per day, enabling the production of high-quality millet flour for diverse food applications, the statement said.
To facilitate the development of innovative, market-ready millet products, the COEMIC provides advanced secondary processing and value-addition facilities. The Flaking Unit enables the production of nutritious millet flakes, breakfast cereals, and ready-to-cook products that meet the growing demand for convenient, healthy foods.
The Centre’s Extrusion Processing Facility supports the manufacture of a wide range of ready-to-eat snacks and extruded millet products with improved texture, shelf life, and consumer appeal, according to the statement.
In addition, the Baking Facility offers the capability to produce premium millet-based bakery products, including cookies, bread, and other baked items, thereby enabling entrepreneurs and food processors to diversify their product portfolios and enhance product value.
Users can leverage these facilities to access advanced processing technologies without capital investment, the statement said. The processing services, however, are available on a prior booking basis at approved user charges, the statement said.
To encourage first-time users and create awareness about the facilities, the COEMIC proposes a limited-period promotional offer — one additional day of free facility utilisation for the first ten users booking any facility for a minimum of two days, or free utilisation of the facility for up to two days for the first five registered users, subject to availability and operational guidelines, the statement said.
