Champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa’s ex-wife, Victoria de Sousa, has been charged with assault after allegedly attacking him in July. The case was brought before Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday, August 27, 2025, where the 39-year-old mother of three was accused of wounding the 44-year-old rider with intent to cause serious harm.

The alleged incident happened on July 27, just one day before Mr de Sousa won a race at Yarmouth.

Victoria de Sousa accused of wounding Silvestre de Sousa in July attack

At the court hearing, prosecutors said Victoria de Sousa attacked her former husband, causing injuries serious enough to bring a charge of wounding with intent. She appeared in court wearing an electronic ankle tag, which was part of her bail conditions.

Judge Andrew Hurst adjourned the case until September 12, after defense lawyer Ella Ripper told the court her client had still not decided on a plea. The judge expressed concern at the delay, saying: “I am concerned we have got to today, almost a month after Mrs de Sousa’s appearance at Ipswich, and effectively she is unclear about what her plea is. We need to get a grip on this case.”Mrs de Sousa’s legal team also asked for the ankle tag to be removed. They argued that the device was interfering with her work as a riding instructor. Ms Ripper said: “She has specific riding boots she has to wear and has to ride horses before the children she teaches ride them. Recently she had a fall because she was wearing ankle boots. The tag is preventing her doing her job properly and she is losing about £5,000 a month as a result of being electronically tagged.

The judge rejected the application, meaning she will remain tagged until the next court date. Also Read: Andre Agassi And Steffi Graf’s Daughter Jaz Makes Rare US Open Appearance With Father And Gives Glimpse Of Her Boyfriend
