Chandor man alleges fraudulent property transfer

Margao: The Fatorda police have registered a case against five persons accused of committing property fraud in 2019. The accused allegedly impersonated the complainant to fraudulently transfer ownership of family property in Chandor.According to a complaint by Chandor resident Alvaro Antao, the fraud was committed on Dec 11, 2019, at the sub registrar’s office at Margao. The accused, Antonio Antao of Chandor, allegedly impersonated the complainant. Along with accomplices Candito Andre Kennedy D’Costa of Guirdolim and Francisco Fernandes, Antonio visited the complainant’s elderly father, Ferdinando Antao, at his residence at night. Antonio allegedly posed as his son and fraudulently obtained Ferdinando’s signature on a power of attorney, which was later notarised.Police said Antonio used the forged power of attorney and presented the document before the sub registrar’s office at Margao, and executed a sale deed of Ferdinando’s property. The property was subsequently sold to two other accused persons - Pascoal Antonio Antao and Alvito Florencio Antao, both residents of Chandor. Further investigation is under way.
