Chandrababu Naidu eyes Singapore’s Tuas Port as model for Andhra Pradesh’s maritime transformation

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has stated that the key elements of Singapore’s Tuas model would be adapted and replicated in Andhra Pradesh to boost maritime trade and logistics.

Mr. Naidu had detailed discussions with Vincent, Regional CEO of the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA), on the port’s development, operational strategies, and technological architecture, on Monday, the second day of his visit to the Southeast Asian nation.

Stating that the Tuas Port serves as a global benchmark in maritime infrastructure, Mr. Naidu expressed his government’s commitment to harness Andhra Pradesh’s vast coastline by developing ports and port-led industrial ecosystems. 

The Chief Minister noted that the scale and precision of the port were impressive, and he showed particular interest in how PSA uses AI and automation to enhance efficiency, reduce turnaround time, and build an environmentally sustainable logistics ecosystem.

The Andhra Pradesh government is planning to develop a port every 50 kilometres along its long coastline, positioning the State as a key gateway to Southeast Asia. The proposed model includes port-led industrial corridors, logistics hubs, and smart cargo handling systems modelled on the Tuas framework, he said.

Mr. Naidu and his team, consisting of Ministers Nara Lokesh and T.G. Bharat, and senior officials from the Infrastructure and Industries departments, studied the ultra-modern port, where Asia’s second-largest container terminal is under construction. They explored how PSA’s automation systems, smart tracking technologies, and green logistics approaches could be adapted for Andhra Pradesh’s coastline development.

The Tuas Port, being developed in four phases with a total investment of ₹1.70 lakh crore, integrates artificial intelligence, robotics, and full automation in cargo handling. It exemplifies a smart, sustainable model of maritime infrastructure that aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s vision of becoming a logistics powerhouse.
