 Man Shot Dead on Main Road After Court Appearance

Chatra: A 25-year-old man from Hazaribag district was shot dead on the Chatra-Simaria Main Road on Friday. The deceased Karamjeet Kumar alias Vikas was returning to his home in Salga village under Keredari police station limits on a bike after appearing in a case which was heard at the Chatra district court earlier in the day.Police on Saturday said he appeared in a case filed for allegedly eloping with a minor girl two years ago. Kumar was riding back home when unidentified men intercepted him in an SUV near Dhamdhamma village close to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya around 8 pm.The assailants fired at least four rounds at Kumar. A bullet hit him in his chest and another in a leg. Two other bullets hit his bike. Kumar died on the spot.Kumar’s family members claimed he had been getting threats from a man named Mohan Ji.

“My nephew had been receiving repeated threats. A person named Mohanji used to threaten him in the name of TSPC extremists,” Kumar’s maternal uncle Arvind Saw claimed. Arun Saw, another uncle of Kumar, claimed the family had been threatened during appearances at the court.“Once we were threatened inside the court premises,” he alleged. The family has also named Leela Devi, Adit Saw and Durga Kumar as suspects in the case.Subdivisional police officer Sandeep Suman said, “Probe is underway from all angles to identify and arrest those involved. We are also verifying the mobile numbers from which threats calls were made to the deceased.”
