Chennai police arrest 54 in week-long narcotics crackdown

Chennai: Police arrested 54 persons in 33 cases related to the trafficking and sale of narcotic substances during a week-long crackdown conducted between June 28 and July 4. Police seized 46.6kg of ganja, 12g of methamphetamine, 386 narcotic tablets, eight mobile phones, three motorcycles and a car.The cases involved the smuggling and sale of ganja and narcotics transported into Chennai from other states through trains and goods vehicles. Eight mobile phones, three motorcycles and a car used to commit the crime were confiscated. Action was also initiated to freeze the bank accounts of the arrested persons as part of the financial investigation into the drug trafficking network, police said.
