CHENNAI: At long last, Chennaiyin FC gave their fans a reason to cheer, breaking their home jinx in the Indian Super League this season after beating Sporting Club Delhi here on Friday.Farukh Choudhary’s 11th-minute strike handed them a 1-0 win and took CFC to eight points from eight matches, same as Delhi’s.
After a bright attacking start, Farukh, receiving a pass from Alberto Noguera on the left, advanced into the box and unleashed a shot with his weaker left foot.
Goalkeeper Nora Fernandes could not do much and watched it sail over him into the top-right corner.Just before half-time, defender Alex Saji denied CFC a two-goal cushion. Irfan Yadwad delivered a teasing cross from the right that fell kindly for Daniel Chima Chukwu, but just as the striker pulled the trigger, Saji from inside the six-yard box slid in to block and keep the lead in check.
