RAIPUR: Security forces killed two Maoists in an ongoing encounter in the insurgency-affected Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region on Friday morning, weapons and explosives were recovered from the site.According to official, the gunfight began in the Gangaloor area of south-western Bijapur following intelligence reports about the presence of Maoist cadres. A joint team of security forces, including the District Reserve Guard (DRG), launched a search operation early on Friday, which escalated into intermittent heavy firing.Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav, who is monitoring the operation, said the bodies of two Maoists were recovered along with a .303 rifle, other weapons, and a large cache of explosives.
Daily-use items and Maoist propaganda materials were also seized.Police added that the exact number of Maoists involved has not yet been confirmed. For security reasons, details regarding troop deployment and the precise location of the encounter were withheld. Authorities emphasised that operational secrecy remained crucial as the exchange of fire continued.A senior officer said a detailed report would be released once the operation concludes.
