Raipur: A 23-year-old man was allegedly strangled to death by his mother and younger brother in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district after a quarrel over money for liquor, with the duo later hanging the body to make it appear as a case of suicide, reported on June 29.The incident took place in Goji village where the victim, identified as Narsingh Sahu, was found hanging on June 29, and the death was initially suspected to be a suicide. However, the following days, post-mortem report revealed that Narsingh had died due to strangulation and poisoning, prompting police to register a murder case and launch a detailed investigation.Additional SP Shailendra Pandey said questioning of family members and local residents pointed to frequent disputes over the victim's alleged alcohol addiction.
Police said Narsingh would often demand money to buy liquor and turn violent when his family refused.Investigators said the fatal confrontation also stemmed from a similar demand. According to police, Narsingh picked up a fight after his mother refused to give him money for alcohol. Enraged by the repeated abuse and assault, his 60-year-old mother, Kamla Bai Sahu, and 22-year-old younger brother, Naresh Sahu, strangled him with a rope.
Police said the two then forced pesticide into his mouth, fearing he might still be alive, before hanging the body from a noose in an attempt to pass off the killing as suicide and mislead investigators. The alleged murder came to light after forensic findings contradicted the family's version of events. During interrogation, the mother and son reportedly confessed to the crime. Both have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody
