A senior Chhattisgarh IPS officer of the Chhattisgarh Cadre was suspended on Thursday (March 26, 2026) following a departmental inquiry purportedly into allegations of harassment by a junior colleague's wife, said a government official.
The inquiry against Ratan Lal Dangi [IPS 2003] was initiated late last year and Mr. Dangi had denied the allegations while also claiming that he was being blackmailed.
The suspension order issued by the home department stated that while holding the dignified position of a senior officer in the Police Department, Mr Dangi had not exhibited conduct befitting his position, exhibiting unbecoming and unethical conduct, abusing his position of influence, and violating established cultural norms, thereby prima facie violating the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968.
It added that his actions have been circulated and publicized on electronic and social media, tarnishing the image of the police in the public and society for which he is responsible.
“During the period of suspension, the headquarters of Shri Ratan Lal Dangi, IPS (2003), shall be the Police Headquarters, Nava Raipur. During the suspension period, Shri Ratan Lal Dangi, IPS (2003), shall be entitled to a subsistence allowance in accordance with the rules and shall not leave the headquarters without the permission of the competent authority,” the order added.
Earlier, in October 2025, the woman had accused that the Inspector General of Police rank officer of physically, mentally and financially harassing her had expressed fears that her husband could face transfer because of the allegations made by her. Mr. Dangi had written to the State DGP alleging that the woman was blackmailing him and was pressurising him to leave his family.
The suspended officer was unavailable for a comment as his phone was found to be switched off.
