Jaipur: An 11-year-old boy drowned after being swept away in a rain-swollen nullah in Jagannath Puri under Shipra Path police station area Thursday.The deceased, Monu alias Mohit Kumar, went to play with other children near a small nullah in Triveni Nagar.
Police said continuous rainfall turned the usually shallow drain into a fast-flowing stream.
While holding onto a railing, Monu reportedly lost his grip and was swept away by the strong current.SHO Mahendra Yadav said locals alerted the police, following which teams from the SDRF and Civil Defence launched a search operation. Rescue personnel searched the drain for several hours using ropes and specialised equipment.The boy’s body was recovered late Thursday night and taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. After post-mortem, the body was handed over to his family.
