With the timely intervention of officials, a child marriage was prevented in a Raichur village on Thursday.
The minor girl’s parents had made preparations for the marriage. However, the locals, after coming to know of the proposed marriage, informed the Child Helpline Centre.
After receiving information, the Raichur Rural Police, helpline staff and officials of the Woman and Child Welfare Department rushed to the house of the girl and convinced the parents of the need to adhere to the law which prevents child marriage.
They also informed them of the punishment for lawbreakers and prevented the child marriage.
The officials, thereafter, brought the girl to Raichur and admitted her to the Girls Balamandir, the release said.
