David Beckham has finally addressed the storm surrounding his family after his son, Brooklyn Peltz Beckham, made a series of explosive allegations against his parents on Instagram.
Brooklyn, 26, stunned followers this week by accusing David and Victoria Beckham of trying to interfere in, and even “ruin", his marriage to actress Nicola Peltz.
It marked the most public escalation yet in what has been widely reported as a strained relationship between the Beckhams and their eldest son.
David Beckham avoids direct comment, but sends a message
David Beckham was first spotted publicly at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland shortly after the Instagram stories surfaced.
When approached by reporters from Sky News and asked whether he had a message for Brooklyn or felt disappointed that family matters were playing out in public, the former England captain smiled politely and walked on without responding.
However, the 50-year-old later appeared to indirectly address the situation during an interview on CNBC’s Squawk Box, where he spoke about social media, parenting, and mistakes — comments that appeared pointed in context.
“I’ve always spoken about social media and the power of it, for the good and for the bad," Beckham said. “It can be dangerous, especially with what kids can access these days."
Beckham then highlighted how he has tried to guide his children toward using social media positively, pointing to his own work with UNICEF as an example of how platforms can be used for impact rather than conflict.
“What I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it (social media) for the right reasons. I’ve been able to use my platform and my following for UNICEF. And it has been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children," Beckham added.
Without naming Brooklyn, Beckham acknowledged that his children — Brooklyn, Romeo (23), Cruz (20), and Harper (14) — have all made mistakes.
“They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids," he stated.
