Singer Chinmayi Sripada came out in support of her husband, actor and director Rahul Ravindran during an online discussion about women’s rights. The debate began after an X user tagged Rahul and asked him to make a film about crimes by women against men.
The user mentioned the recent Pune case involving Ketan Agarwal and also referred to Rahul's film ‘The Girlfriend’.Chinmayi shared a screenshot of Rahul's reply and wrote, “Read this. Find a man like Rahul or don't marry and suffer. That’s my only suggestion. Rest mee ishtam, mee life.”
Rahul Ravindran explains his view
In Rahul Ravindran’s post, he gave a detailed reply to the X user. He said, “I don’t claim to know everything bro so educate me if I am wrong.
But I don’t see atrocities of ‘women’ on ‘men’ at all. I see some horrible incidents of sociopathic human beings who happen to be women, committing horrible crimes.”He also said that he sees a social system that has treated women unfairly for many years. According to Rahul, women still face many small and everyday problems that stop them from getting equal opportunities. He said the women around him inspired him to explore these issues through ‘The Girlfriend’.
Rahul added that he had not yet read the full details of the Pune case but would do so. He said if he ever made a film based on it, it would be about one woman committing a crime and “Not crimes of women on men.”
Rahul Ravindran explains the film's message
The ‘Jigra’ actor also said there is a clear difference between individual crimes and the social issue shown in his film. He said, “There’s a difference, the way I see it. Mind you, such incidents of crime are ghastly and terrible.
But what I was trying to do is completely different. Had nothing to do with such crimes.”Talking about the male lead Vikram in ‘The Girlfriend’, Rahul said the character is not physically abusive or violent. He is faithful, but the film still shows how a relationship can become emotionally unhealthy.Rahul also asked people to think about why some viewers felt uncomfortable with the film. He said he is always ready to listen to feedback and learn from different opinions.
