The Chittoor police on Friday (February 13, 2026) dismissed reports circulating on social media and television channels about the manufacture and sale of adulterated milk in the Kuppam Assembly constituency, terming them ‘false and misleading’.
In a press release, the police clarified that no adulterated milk was produced or sold anywhere within the limits of Kuppam. The accused identified in the case belong to Shantipuram, Gudipalli, and Ramakuppam mandals, and the illegal activity was confined entirely to areas within the jurisdiction of the neighbouring Karnataka State.
The clarification following a raid conducted by the KGF (Kolar Gold Fields) Andersonpet police in Ballagiri village, Karnataka, based on specific inputs. During the operation, the police unearthed a unit allegedly preparing milk using Karnataka government milk powder, commercially available milk powder, and palm oil.
The accused identified as Venkatesh, his son Balaji, Dilip, Balaraju, and Manohar were arrested. A case was registered under Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, relevant provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Subsequent investigation led to the identification and arrest of transporters and suppliers, including Harshab Khan of Chintamani and Rajareddy. Others who allegedly purchased the adulterated milk despite knowing its nature were also remanded.
Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi said that the preliminary investigation had clearly established that the adulterated milk was manufactured and supplied exclusively within Karnataka, and not to any dairy in the Kuppam constituency.
The police officials warned that stringent legal action would be taken against individuals spreading unverified and false information, causing public confusion.
