 UPSC aspirant attacked, robbed by 2 men in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Two men were arrested for allegedly robbing a UPSC aspirant of his mobile phone in Delhi's Timarpur area, police said on Sunday. Their arrest helped police solve four cases, including robbery, snatching and vehicle theft.The accused were identified as Rajender alias Kallu (28), a history-sheeter from Shalimar Bagh, and Upender Shah (25).Both currently reside in Mukundpur and are originally from Nepal.According to police, the robbery took place around 5 am on July 6 near CNG Park in Timarpur, when 25-year-old UPSC aspirant Ankit Singh Kushwaha was returning home after studying at a library. "Two men intercepted him, choked him, assaulted him with fists and robbed him of his mobile phone before fleeing on foot," an officer said.An FIR was registered at Timarpur police station, following which a special team launched an investigation. Police analysed footage from around 110 CCTV cameras to trace the suspects' movements.After obtaining clear images of the accused from one of the cameras, the team circulated them among local informers. Following searches at nearly 150 houses in Mukundpur, both accused were arrested from their rented accommodation on July 10, police said.

"During interrogation, the duo confessed to stealing a scooter from the Adarsh Nagar area on the intervening night of July 5 and 6 to commit robberies. The stolen two-wheeler was allegedly used in the Timarpur robbery," the officer told PTI.Police recovered the robbed mobile phone and the stolen scooter from the accused.Verification revealed that the scooter had been stolen in a case registered at Adarsh Nagar police station.Based on the accused's disclosures, police said they also solved two other snatching cases registered at Timarpur police station. Rajender is allegedly involved in 14 previous cases of robbery, snatching and theft, while Upender has been booked in two similar cases in the past.(With agency inputs)
