Chris Paul has officially walked away from the NBA after 21 long seasons. The future Hall of Fame point guard shared the news himself on Instagram after being released by the Toronto Raptors.

He began this past season with the Los Angeles Clippers, was traded at the deadline, and soon after confirmed that he was done playing. Chris Paul retires with a reported net worth of $180 million and an annual salary of $30 million in his final contract years. Over more than two decades, he built a name as one of the smartest and most steady point guards in league history. He made 12 All Star teams, earned 11 All NBA honors, and was selected to nine All Defensive Teams.

He also led the league in assists four times and in steals six times. In his own words, Chris Paul wrote, “This is it. After over 21 years I am stepping away from basketball. While this chapter of being an NBA player is done, the game of basketball will forever be ingrained in the DNA of my life.”

Chris Paul retires after 21 NBA seasons and Hall of Fame career

Chris Paul was born on May 6, 1985, in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He played college basketball at Wake Forest University before entering the 2005 NBA Draft.

The New Orleans Hornets selected him with the fourth overall pick. From the start, he looked different. He controlled the game, set up teammates, and played tough defense despite his size.Over the years, he suited up for the New Orleans Hornets, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, and most recently the Los Angeles Clippers again before his trade to Toronto.

In 2021, he helped lead the Phoenix Suns to the NBA Finals. A championship never came, but his impact on every team was clear.In August 2021, Chris Paul signed a four year, $120 million contract with the Phoenix Suns. Reports show his total NBA career earnings reached around $446 million. On top of that, he earned an estimated $10 to $20 million per year from endorsements.

Chris Paul family and personal life

Away from basketball, Chris Paul married Jada Crawley in September 2011. They have two children. He also runs the CP3 Foundation, which supports communities in Louisiana and his hometown in North Carolina.After more than half his life in the league, Chris Paul leaves as one of the greatest point guards the game has seen. The next stop is expected to be the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
