New Delhi: Recently, Google has unveiled its latest productivity features in its Chrome on the web. This latest update comes with the ability to split screen within a single window, add PDF markup directly in the browser, and save the PDFs directly to the Google Drive without downloading them first. This update aims to reduce tab switching, make document editing easier, and simplify file management. These latest features focus on simplifying the workflows and keeping everything in one place.
Chrome now brings a split-view feature that lets users view two tabs side by side in a single window. Google has also stated that the idea is to reduce the need to switch between tabs or to open multiple browser windows constantly. This feature is stated to be designed to create a more organized workspace inside the browser itself.
Google has also added that the early testers have used it for different tasks, such as teachers for grading assignments, students for taking notes while watching videos, and developers for referring to the documentation while coding. By keeping the two tabs visible at the same time, split view aims to make multitasking smoother and to reduce interruptions in the workflow.
Chrome’s built-in PDF viewer is also getting an upgrade; now users can highlight text and add notes directly inside the PDF file without downloading it or opening separate applications.
Google has said that the change enables quicker document review and editing. It can be used for signing documents, reviewing reports, marking up class material, or simply highlighting important sections. Additionally, it also removes the extra step in the process, so the users might no longer need a third-party application for the basic annotations.
Chrome is also adding a Save to Google Drive option for PDF downloads. Rather than downloading a file to a local folder and uploading it later, users can now send it directly to their Google Drive. Files saved this way will automatically be placed in the Saved from Chrome folder inside the Drive.
The Save to Google Drive option is meant to make downloads easier to find and accessible across devices. Google stated that these features are meant for both everyday users and enterprise customers.
