New Delhi: Google has officially announced and confirmed that Gemini features within the Chrome browser are currently rolling out to Chromebooks, and it starts with Chromebook Plus models. Google has stated that the rollout has begun in the US, by bringing AI-powered tools directly into Chrome on ChromeOS after a period of limited access. Gemini in Chrome was mainly available on the desktop platforms such as Windows and macOS, with ChromeOS left out despite being Google’s own operating system. Gemini in Chrome is rolling out to the Chromebook Plus devices, which are running ChromeOS.
This latest feature is now limited to the US, and it is not yet available on the standard Chromebooks. This restriction doesn’t come with the major surprise, as Google has positioned Chromebooks Plus as a more capable category with better hardware and added features, many of which focus on AI. But there is no confirmation yet on whether Gemini in Chrome will extend to other Chromebook models in the future. Gemini in Chrome has appeared as the sidebar inside the browser itself and can pull information from open tabs.
According to the company, the tools are especially designed to fit into everyday browsing and work tasks without requiring users to switch applications. Users can ask questions based on the content of their open tabs, get the summaries of articles, or clarify complex information. This tool can also help to generate content such as emails, social media posts, or simple images directly within the browser. Gemini Live will enable users to have two-way voice conversations with the AI. And this can be used for brainstorming ideas, preparing for meetings, or working through tasks using the voice input.
Google has stated that the Chromebook version, which works the same way as the Gemini in Chrome on Windows and macOS. The rollout began on January 28, 2026, but it might take a couple of weeks before the feature becomes more visible to all the eligible users. Gemini in Chrome is currently available to US-based Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts who are signed into the Gemini application and are 18 or older.
