CII Trichy’s Yi to analyse problems in women’s mobility and safety in city

Trichy: Young Indians (Yi) Trichy chapter, a part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), has launched ‘Youth for Action, Tiruchirappalli”, a citywide hackathon inviting youths to design solutions for safer, gender-sensitive urban mobility in the city.

The online hackathon will identify and reward action-oriented, sustainable, and scalable solutions for women’s mobility and safety in the city jointly with ICLEI South Asia, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Trichy corporation.The hackathon is scheduled to run till July 15. Participants aged between 18 and 30 years are required to submit their solutions on the official website www.youthforaction.org.Organisers said that students, young professionals, and entrepreneurs passionate about creating a sustainable urban plan can participate as an individual or as a team with a maximum of three members. Yi Trichy chapter has reached out to colleges, professional associations, clubs, and community networks in the city.Sashank, chair, Yi Trichy chapter, said that the hackathon expects policy suggestions, digital tools, awareness models, and pilot projects to address infrastructure lapses such as unsafe sidewalks and behavioural change in overcoming social problems.

Winning teams shall get Rs25,000 as first prize, Rs15,000 for second, and Rs10,000 for third. The teams will also receive mentorship support from startup communities and CII, with opportunities for incubation and patent filing assistance. Select solutions will also be showcased on the city’s official website and social media platforms.
