City police mulls route from Dwarka to Sarda circle to ease congestion

Work of Grade Separator underway on stretch between Sarda Circle and Dwarka in Nashik. Plans are afoot to create a small road for light vehicles from Dwarka to Sarda Circle.

Nashik: The city police are planning a small connecting road from Dwarka to Sarda Circle to relieve highway traffic towards Mumbai Naka. Last week’s partial opening of the Dwarka junction triggered a massive vehicle influx.

In response, police and road construction officials are discussing carving out a 4-metre-wide road for smaller vehicles to clear the bottleneck.Owing to the heavy rush of traffic towards Nashik Road from Dwarka junction proceeding further to Sinnar, Shirdi, Sangamner, and Pune, the authorities had taken up construction of a grade separator on the Sarda Circle–Dwarka–Kathe Galli signal stretch. In Feb this year, the Dwarka junction was closed for traffic.

Hence, vehicles from Shalimar, CBS, and other parts of Nashik city proceeding toward Nashik Road, as well as vehicles moving in the opposite direction, have been using alternative routes. Meanwhile, a section of the Dwarka junction was recently reopened for Mumbai and Dhule-bound traffic, significantly increasing the rush.Senior officials of the city traffic branch said a large number of commuters use Wadala Road, which intersects the highway, to travel between Wadala and Bhadrakali. Officials added that they are communicating with representatives of the construction company to see if a four-meter road can be created between Dwarka and Sarda Circle. This would allow motorists from Adgaon side wanting to proceed towards Shalimar and CBS to enter the city directly from Dwarka, rather than using the Mumbai Naka junction.Police inspector Riyaz Shaikh said they have been trying to reduce the rush towards Dwarka junction to save commuters’ fuel and time.
