Clash during bull run leaves eight injured

Haveri: Eight people were injured in a clash between two groups on Monday evening during a bull-running event held as part of the Karahunime festival at Naregal village of Hangal taluk, reportedly over the issue of bursting firecrackers.The clash began near the village mosque while the bull run was under way. The verbal argument into violence, with both sides allegedly attacking each other. Some of them were said to have used sticks and other objects in the assault.Those seriously hurt included Lohit Kurubar, Shivaraj Kurubar, Nagappa Kurubar, Jayappa Kurubar, Ningaraj Kurubar and Mallappa Kodamaggi. They were shifted to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi for treatment.

Bhashasab Goundi and Khaja Goundi are also injured.Soon after the incident, Hangal police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Later, SP Yashoda Vantagodi visited Naregal and reviewed the situation. Extra police personnel are deployed to prevent any further unrest.With the village remaining tense, police have appealed to residents to maintain peace.“A clash broke out at Naregal village during Karahunime celebrations while calves, were being run. Eight people were injured, and a case will be registered in connection with the incident,” said Vantagodi.
