A 14-year-old private school student died after an RTC bus hit a motorcycle on Road No. 5 in Jubilee Hills on Saturday afternoon at around 2 p.m. Her father and 10-year-old younger brother sustained injuries.
The deceased was identified as Keerthika, a class VIII student. Her father Durga Prasad, a watchman, was bringing the girl and her brother Sai back from school when the accident occurred near the metro station.
According to the police, an electric RTC bus, allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner, collided with the motorcycle, causing all three of them to fall on the road. Keerthika came under the rear wheel of the bus and died on the spot due to a head injury. While Sai sustained fractures, Durga Prasad suffered minor injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicated that there was water on the road and a wrongly parked car which may have contributed to the incident as the bus moved closer to the side of the road before hitting the motorcycle.
Bus driver Tirupathi has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
