Claude has suffered its second major outage in three days, leaving hundreds of users staring at error messages. The disruption started at around 14:53 UTC (8:23 pm IST) and at the time of writing, the AI chatbot is still down.
According to downdetector, the complaints peaked with 6500 users claiming that they faced issues in accessing Claude Chat (36%), Claude Code (30%) and App (25%).When team members of the Times of India tech team checked, they couldn’t access the app on mobiles. On the web, the AI chatbot returned messages like, “Service is temporarily busy. You can try again shortly”, and “Page not found. Claude can help with many things, but finding this page isn’t one of them.”Anthropic, the company behind the AI, officially acknowledged the “Partial Outage” on its status page, noting that there has been an “Unresolved incident: Elevated errors on Claude.ai, API, Claude Code.”
Anthropic says: Claude API recovers, AI chatbot down
Anthropic’s engineers identified the issue quickly, stating they were "working to apply a fix" for the login errors. At 15:20 UTC (9:50 pm IST), the company said that it has fixed Claude API issue and is working to resolve other problems.
“The Claude API has fully recovered as of 8:01 PT / 16:01 UTC. We are currently working on mitigating the ongoing errors for Claude AI. Claude Code users who are logged in are still able to use it, but logging in is still broken,” Anthropic said.According to the latest update by the company, “We have seen success rates for login to Claude.ai, including via Claude Code, stabilize and are working to fully resolve this issue.
We will provide an update shortly.”
Two outages in three days
While the fixes the remaining issues, the frequency of these crashes is starting to raise eyebrows. This is the second time in just three days that Claude has been knocked offline. A similar “major outage” occurred last week when chatbots were rendered inoperational. On April 7, both the chatbot and the coding tools were ‘out of order’ for a significant period.
