CM announces Cabinet Sub-Committee on Musi rejuvenation; rehabilitation for all displaced

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced the constitution of a Cabinet Sub-Committee to oversee the ambitious Musi Rejuvenation Project, reiterating that the government is committed to rehabilitating every single person displaced due to the initiative.

Speaking in the Legislative Council, he said the proposed panel would comprise Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and Ministers D. Sridhar Babu and Ponnam Prabhakar.

He asserted that the government has prepared a comprehensive roadmap for the development of the Musi and “We will not cause harm to even a single individual. Every displaced family will be rehabilitated,” he said.

Mr. Reddy appealed to opposition parties to refrain from “false propaganda” against the project. He said if the opposition was uncomfortable submitting suggestions directly to him, the Cabinet Sub-Committee would examine their views.

Highlighting urban infrastructure initiatives, Mr. Reddy said the State had secured permission to develop what he described as India’s first underpass at Begumpet Airport, aimed at easing congestion and ensuring smoother traffic flow by reducing signal stoppages.

Metro Rail expansion

The Chief Minister announced that the next phase of Metro Rail expansion would commence soon. The State has decided to take over the existing Metro project from Larsen & Toubro after discussions, citing the need to strengthen last-mile connectivity. He noted that the Union Government had responded positively to the expansion proposals.

Under the Telangana Rising 2047 vision, the government plans to establish an industrial corridor spanning 10,000 square kilometres. The Chief Minister said regions categorised as PURE, CURE and RARE would be developed to ensure balanced and sustainable economic growth.

For administrative convenience and coordinated development, Greater Hyderabad has been divided into three municipal corporations under a unified policy framework for the Core Urban Region Economy.

He said the government has also drawn up plans for an elevated corridor along the Musi from Gandipet to Gourelli, which would significantly reduce travel time across the 40-km stretch through the heart of the city.

Expressing concern over rising air pollution and civic issues in metros such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru, Mr. Reddy stressed the need to prevent Hyderabad from facing similar challenges. The government had introduced the HILT policy to check pollution and ensure planned urban growth, he said.

Polluting industries within Hyderabad will be relocated outside the Outer Ring Road, freeing up land for middle-class housing. Land use is being reclassified from exclusive industrial zones to multi-use zones, he said.
