Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday inaugurated the ₹2,529-crore drinking water project in Pavagada town which would supply safe water from the backwaters of Tungabhadra dam to 270 villages of six taluks in three districts.
Speaking after inaugurating the project, he said it will end the perennial drinking water crisis in Pavagada town and villages of Chitradurga and Vijayanagara districts. Nearly 17.5 lakh people will benefit from the project.
The Chief Minister, who laid the foundation stone for the project in January 2018, said the drinking water scheme would help in improving the health of the people since they have been suffering from illness by drinking water with fluoride. The water is being supplied to Pavagada from backwaters of TB dam, which is located at a distance of 230 km.
He said Pavagada taluk, which was one of the most backward taluks in the State and Tumakuru district, would be developed. He also laid the foundation for a 2,250- MW solar power project and other development schemes.
Home Minister G. Parameshwara and other district MLAs attended the programme.
