Porvorim: The controversy over the Khapreshwar deity’s placement on NH 66 came to rest after the chief minister and the local MLA announced a spot for the deity near the Porvorim flyover.CM Pramod Sawant on Monday visited the designated spot of Khapreshwar devasthan and conducted a joint inspection along with the local MLA and tourism minister, Rohan Khaunte, and other officials.Sawant said that while shifting the deity from its original spot, we wanted to reserve a place away from the NH 66, but we were misunderstood by the devotees. We had requested the builder to reserve a space in the same area to construct the temple.“In the name Khapreshwar, there was a lot of politics, and we are never against any deity. We do not mix dev, desh and dharm in politics,” he added.Khaunte said, “The non-residents of Porvorim attacked both the CM and me, but we had already decided to proceed once the Supreme Court received the consent letter. After obtaining permission from the highway authorities, we began work on the flyover.”
