CM opens Rs 99cr Dinesh Goswami flyover, praises early completion

In a significant boost to urban infrastructure, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma rolled out the much-anticipated Rs 99 crore, 1.2 km Dinesh Goswami flyover in Guwahati, designed to alleviate traffic woes.

Guwahati: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated the flyover named after the former Union minister of law and justice, Dinesh Goswami, stepping towards easing traffic congestion and improving urban connectivity along the Bharalumukh stretch of the city.Built at a cost of Rs 99 crore, the 1.2 km stretch will ease travel for commuters — especially school students and ambulance services — as it passes over the railway crossing between the Bharalumukh area and Santipur. “From Shantipur, it will be a two-lane road and the road descending towards Bharalumukh will be a single lane. The return elevated corridor towards Santipur will be one lane,” Sarma said.Speaking about the road structure of the flyover, Sarma said commuters travelling from Santipur towards Bharalumukh, Kamakhya, or Sukleshwar would get a two-lane stretch at the midpoint of the flyover.

The flyover was designed in consultation with the railway department and was completed within just 15 months by the public works department, which Sarma said is remarkable for a project of this scale. “The original deadline for the project was 24 months, but it was completed ahead of schedule,” he said.He also reiterated that the Noonmati–Ambari flyover is scheduled to open on March 10. The Cycle Factory flyover is expected to be inaugurated before Bihu. However, if election dates coincide, it will be opened to the public without any formal ceremony, even if the model code of conduct is in force. “We have taken a decision that if the construction is completed, we will not wait for any meeting and will open it to the public so that they can be relieved of traffic congestion during Bihu.

The newly inaugurated flyover in the city comes just a month after the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi.
