CM to commission third RoRo on Sunday

Kochi: CM V D Satheesan will inaugurate the third Ro-Ro vessel owned by Kochi corporation, at Vypeen Ro-Ro Jetty on Sunday, informed mayor V K Minimol after a meeting was held at her chamber on Wednesday.The meeting chaired by Minimol was attended by standing committee chairpersons Antony Painuthara, T K Ashraf, P M Nasima, Shakutha Suresh Babu, Seena Gokulan, K A Manaf and Jismy Geral, corporation secretary P S Shibu, and officials from Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL), KSINC, police and the corporation.The mayor announced that, similar to state govt’s Priyadarshini scheme, women will be given free travel on Ro-Ro services as well.The third Ro-Ro vessel built by CSL will have facilities to carry 14 trucks, 12 cars and 50 passengers.The mayor said the new Ro-Ro has been built to address the shortcomings in the existing Ro-Ro service. With the launch of this new Ro-Ro service, travel difficulties in West Kochi via Vypeen-Fort Kochi will be reduced, she said.
