CHENNAI: VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan on Friday defended chief minister C Joseph Vijay’s silence on the Union govt’s various policies against the state autonomy and the Mekedatu issue, stating that the CM is following a “talk less and work more” formula.
He added that the CM is not restricting him or the leaders of alliance parties from airing their views against the Union govt, which indicates that the CM endorses their views.“He is not restricting us from expressing our views on Mekedatu dam and other issues. VCK, Congress, and Left parties are voicing their opinions on such matters, and the CM remaining silent shows he is endorsing our views,” Thirumavalavan told reporters when asked about the non-reaction to Union govt’s policies.
He met the press following Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president Manickam Tagore’s courtesy visit to his Velachery residence.“Everyone has a different approach. The present CM follows the ‘talk less, work more’ formula,” he said while responding to a question contrasting Vijay’s style with former chief minister M K Stalin’s sharp criticisms of the Union govt policies.Thirumavalavan defended the TVK govt's stance on providing jobs for the families of the Karur stampede victims.
“It has been VCK’s long-standing demand to provide govt jobs to the families of victims of such tragedies. A govt job should be considered a source of livelihood for the victim’s family,” he said. TNCC president Tagore also justified the TVK govt’s gesture, noting that those who lost their lives were innocent citizens. On his series of meetings with alliance party leaders, including CPM state secretary P Shanmugam, he stated that these were state-level courtesy visits. “As we are in the INDIA bloc, we are all working together against the RSS, BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah. We all hope that we will stop BJP from entering TN,” he said.
