COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore corporation on Monday imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on its 24x7 water supply project contractor SUEZ -- a French company -- for failing to restore roads after laying pipelines.
Corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran visited the Nanjappa Road on Monday to check ongoing work. Water pipe laying work had been carried out on the Gandhipuram Nanjappa Road in ward 67 on behalf of SUEZ. The commissioner noticed that despite the completion of the pipeline installation by SUEZ, the road was not restored properly. He ordered officials to impose a fine of Rs 5 lakh on SUEZ. Additionally, the same amount of fine was imposed on the project consultant for failing to monitor and ensure proper road restoration.The 24x7 water supply project is being implemented in 60 wards as per the old delimitation. This project is being executed by SUEZ, and the contract was awarded in 2018.
