COIMBATORE: The traffic investigation wing (TIW) of the Coimbatore city police have arrested a man for allowing a 17-year-old boy to drive a goods autorickshaw which was involved in a fatal accident. The accident happened near Chinniyampalayam in Coimbatore city on May 27. Makali, 55, his wife Selvi, 50, and Rangamma were returning home after work. While they were walking to an ATM to withdraw money, an overspeeding goods autoricksahw hit them.Selvi and Rangamma, who suffered severe head injuries, were admitted to the emergency unit of the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. Based on the statements from Makali, the police registered a case against vehicle owner Pilotraj.
Inquiries revealed that a minor boy was driving the goods autorickshaw. Selvi, who was in the emergency care unit, died without responding to the treatments on May 29. After her death, an investigation was initiated by TIW inspector Amudha. Based on the findings, Pilotraj was arrested for allowing the minor boy to drive a vehicle. He was produced before a judicial magistrate court and remanded in judicial custody.Details of the boy’s connection with Pilotraj are not known. The city police have warned of stringent action against parents and others who allow minors to drive their vehicles.
