The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has forecast a drop in minimum temperature in south interior Karnataka and Malnad regions from December 12 to 16.
A KSNDMC release said minimum temperatures are likely to be 4°C to 6°C below normal over South Interior Karnataka and Malnad districts, resulting in cold wave to severe cold wave conditions in a few places of this region.
The minimum temperature recorded during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday indicated that Mysuru registered a low of 14.5 degrees Celsius, while it was 13.5 degrees C in Mandya. Chamarajanagar recorded 13.9 degrees C while it was 13.4 degrees C in Hassan. Kodagu, however, was relatively warm and the minimum temperature during the 24-hour period ending 8.30 a.m. on Thursday was 16.9 degree C, according to the KSNDMC.
The lowest temperature in the State was recorded at Bidar (10 degrees C) followed by Kalaburagi which registered 10.4 degrees C. The cold wave conditions with drop in temperature by 2 to 4 degree below normal, will also be experienced in many districts of north Karnataka region, as per KSNDMC release.
It has stated that multiple layer of clothing will be useful in braving the cold wave and people have been urged to stay indoors as much as possible and minimise travel to prevent exposure to cold wind.
