Cold winds all set to return to northern plains. A western disturbance moving eastward is expected to strengthen cold winds across the northern plains, leading to a drop in minimum temperatures on February 11, according to weather observations.

Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and northern Madhya Pradesh are likely to see cooler nights and early mornings, with a slight return of winter chill. Meteorologists say minimum temperatures may fall in several places after a brief period of stable weather.

Clear skies and sunny days to continue

Despite the fall in night temperatures, daytime conditions across northern and central India are expected to remain bright and sunny with clear skies.

Cloud cover is not expected over the plains, though some clouds may remain over parts of Kashmir and Ladakh.

Across the Indo-Gangetic plains, from Rajasthan to Bihar, sunshine will stay strong but not harsh as cool northerly winds keep daytime temperatures comfortable. This pattern is typical of the late winter transition period in February.

Low pressure developing over Bay of Bengal

A weather system is forming over the Bay of Bengal, but no immediate or major impact on mainland India is expected.

Forecasters say the system may slowly influence wind patterns over the southern peninsula, allowing light cloud cover to develop over parts of south India. These clouds could gradually move towards central India in the coming days.

However, most areas in southern, central, eastern and northeastern India are expected to remain largely clear and dry for now. Wind speeds are increasing over parts of the peninsula, which may bring slightly more cloudiness, but rainfall is unlikely in the short term.

Overall, weather conditions across India reflect a typical late-winter pattern, with cold winds returning to the north, clear skies in most regions and only minor atmospheric activity in the south.

Delhi records warmer day, cooler night ahead

Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to fall to 11 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The city is likely to see a misty day on Wednesday, February 11, but no warning has been issued. Delhi woke up to a mainly clear sky on Tuesday, with sunlight bringing relief from the harsh winter.

Misty mornings and rising temperatures

The IMD said the weather in Delhi is expected to remain similar over the next few days, though warmer days are approaching. The maximum temperature is forecast to rise by up to 13 degrees Celsius.

The IMD stated that there will be no large change in minimum temperatures over the next seven days. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain normal, between minus 1.5 degrees Celsius and plus 1.5 degrees Celsius of the average.

The bulletin added that skies will remain mainly clear for the next seven days, except on February 14 when partly cloudy conditions are likely. Mist is expected during morning hours.

What about AQI?

Delhi’s air quality has improved compared to last month, with the city recording an AQI of 287, placing it in the “poor" category.

Some areas continue to record “very poor" AQI levels above 300, including Anand Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Bawana, Chandni Chowk and ITO.

Several locations recorded “poor" air quality, while a few areas such as Lodhi Road, Mandir Marg, NSIT Dwarka and Sri Aurobindo Marg reported “moderate" AQI.

Authorities have advised residents, especially children, the elderly and those with respiratory problems, to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure during hours of high pollution.
