Collector honours medal-winning para athletes

Visakhapatnam District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore felicitated para athletes Suravarapu Subbarao and Kona Yesu Babu at the Collectorate on Monday for their medal-winning performances at the World Masters Sports Championships-2026 held at Sri Racha, Thailand, from April 17 to 19.

The championship was conducted by the World Masters Sports Federation in association with the International Para Pickleball Association.

Subbarao excelled in para athletics and para pickleball events. He won a gold in the F52 javelin throw event and a silver in the F52 shot put category. He also secured a gold in the PP52 wheelchair singles para pickleball event.

Yesu Babu won silver in the F54 javelin throw event and later teamed up with M. Nalini Rajashekar to claim a bronze medal in the PP54 wheelchair doubles para pickleball competition.

Congratulating the athletes, Mr. Kishore said their accomplishments had brought recognition to both the district and the State. He expressed the hope that they would continue to achieve greater success in future competitions and inspire other sportspersons. The athletes thanked the Collector for his encouragement and submitted a representation seeking sports incentives for para athletes from the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh.
