Collectorate receives bomb threat, dismissed as hoax

Trichy: income tax officials came to the premises of the petitioner and his associates on May 26, 2023, to conduct search operations under Section 132 of the Income Tax Act pursuant to duly executed search warrants.According to police, an unknown individual sent an email to the district collector’s office around 11am claiming that explosives had been planted at the collectorate near Raja Colony.Personnel from the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) arrived at the collectorate and conducted a detailed inspection of the premises. They checked inside the department offices and also examined the vehicles parked within the compound.After nearly two hours of thorough search, Trichy city police and BDDS teams concluded that the bomb threat was a hoax. Police have now launched an investigation to trace the source of the hoax email.This latest hoax comes after a series of similar bomb threats made to various government offices and buildings in Trichy over the past several months.
