As US President Trump cancelled a planned visit by his envoys to Pakistan for talks with Iran, journalist Caitlin Doornbos claimed that Trump directly messaged her, asking her to leave Pakistan soon.
In a post on X, she shared a screengrab of what appeared to be a message from a contact labelled “POTUS", showing the text: “Come home!!!".
The development comes against the backdrop of Trump’s decision to cancel a proposed trip by US envoys to Pakistan for discussions with Iranian representatives.
Trump on Saturday said he had cancelled a planned visit by his envoys to Pakistan for talks with Iran, though he clarified that the move does not signal an immediate return to conflict between the United States and the Islamic republic.
The decision came shortly after Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi concluded his own visit to Islamabad. During his trip, he met Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, all of whom are seen as key players in efforts to mediate between the two sides.
Earlier, the White House had indicated that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would travel to Islamabad for direct discussions with Iranian representatives, with hopes of moving closer to an agreement. However, Trump later told Fox News that he had called off the trip.
“We have all the cards. They can call us anytime they want, but you’re not going to be making any more 18-hour flights to sit around talking about nothing," the president said he had told his team.
When asked by Axios whether this could lead to a resumption of hostilities, Trump responded: “No. It doesn’t mean that. We haven’t thought about it yet."
Meanwhile, Iran’s foreign ministry said Araghchi had left Islamabad and reached Muscat, where he is expected to hold talks with Omani officials. He is also likely to travel to Russia to discuss efforts to end the conflict, which began on February 28 involving the United States and Israel.
