A day after a case was registered against Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay and his bouncers, a party functionary has claimed foul play, questioning the identity of the complainant.

The case was filed after a party cadre, Sharath Kumar, alleged that he was injured when bouncers pushed him while he tried to climb the ramp at TVK’s state conference in Madurai on August 21.

Kumar claimed he sustained chest injuries after slipping off the ramp. A video from the event shows him clutching a railing before sliding down.

However, TVK’s Perambalur district secretary Sivakumar said that it was not Sharath Kumar who was thrown off the ramp. He claimed the person pushed by bouncers was a cadre named Ajay.

“It was not the boy thrown out by the bouncer. He was not there and falsely it is being claimed by his mother. When he was contacted, he said it was not him,” Sivakumar said.

He further alleged that someone had instigated Sharath Kumar to file the complaint. “We are 100 per cent sure that it was not the boy thrown off by the bouncers,” Sivakumar added, defending the bouncers’ actions as a safety measure.

Police have booked Vijay and his security personnel under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The complaint comes in the backdrop of TVK’s massive second state-level conference, which saw lakhs of supporters gather in Madurai. Vijay had walked down a specially built 300-metre ramp, flanked by security, when the incident occurred.
