FIFA president Gianni Infantino has said that he condemns the racist comments directed at French star Kylian Mbappé by a Paraguayan senator, adding that the footballing society stands in solidarity with the French skipper.
The Paraguayan government on Monday also condemned the remarks made by the senator who targeted Mbappé with abusive comments after Paraguay’s elimination from the FIFA World Cup.
Celeste Amarilla, a member of the opposition Liberal Party, launched a racist tirade against Mbappé, describing him as a ‘colonised Cameroonian who has really pretended to be French, embittered, nouveau riche, arrogant and ugly’.
“I unequivocally condemned the racist comments directed towards Kylian Mbappe by Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla. All of football and society stand in solidarity with the France captain- we need to fight racism and defeat it all together," Infantino posted on his Instagram story.

“The remarks made by Senator Celeste Amarilla, directed at the captain of the French national team, Kylian Mbappe, are contrary to the values and principles that inspire peaceful coexistence and respect for human dignity, which our country promotes," Paraguay’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
“They in no way represent the position of the government of the Republic of Paraguay or the Paraguayan people," the statement added.
The remarks, which followed the bad-tempered last-32 match in Philadelphia, sparked uproar in France.
Mbappé joined in the chorus of condemnation from the French government and opposition. “Mrs Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and not worthy of your position," Mbappe tweeted on Monday night.
Madame Celeste Amarilla,Vous êtes une femme méprisable et indigne de sa fonction.Vous ne représentez pas le Paraguay, ce pays qui a transpiré la passion et l’honneur tout au long de la compétition. “You don’t represent Paraguay, the country that has sweated passion and honour throughout the competition," Mbappe wrote.
