Agra: Four people were killed and 32 others injured early Tuesday morning when a speeding, Delhi-bound double-decker bus, allegedly driven by the conductor, rammed into a container truck from behind on the Yamuna Expressway near the Raya cut in Mathura.SSP Shlok Kumar told TOI, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the designated bus driver was not behind the wheel. Instead, the bus conductor was driving the vehicle at high speed when it suddenly veered and crashed into the rear of the truck, which was travelling in its designated lane.”The accident occurred between mile markers 112 and 113 at around 3:35 am. The bus was carrying 65 passengers from Lucknow. The deceased include the designated bus driver Updesh Singh (32) from Mainpuri, the conductor, the cleaner and one passenger.The other three deceased were identified as Hariom (36) from Amethi, Khursheed Ansari (25) and Mubarak (22), both from Unnao. On a complaint by Khursheed Ansari’s brother, Danish, an FIR has been filed in connection with the matter at Raya police station, said SSP Kumar.“We jumped out of the vehicle through the rear emergency exit,” said Preeti Srivastava, a passenger traveling to Faridabad who had been asleep until the crash.
Emergency teams, including senior police and civil administration officials, rushed to the spot to launch rescue operations. The 29 injured passengers were taken to Mathura District Hospital, where doctors confirmed that none are in critical condition, though two are being treated for fractures.District magistrate CP Singh and SSP Shlok Kumar visited the hospital to meet the victims. Authorities confirmed that the remaining 29 unhurt passengers have been sent to their destinations via alternative vehicles, and family members of the victims are being contacted. A detailed investigation is underway.
