KPCC president BK Hariprasad inaugurates an SIR awarenessprogramme in Hubballi. Congress functionaries accompanied him
Hubballi: KPCC president BK Hariprasad on Thursday alleged that genuine voters may be struck off the electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and urged voters and party workers to stay alert. He was speaking at an SIR awareness programme organised by Hubballi-Dharwad Navanagar Zilla and Dharwad Rural Zilla Congress committees at Dr Babu Jagjivan Ram Bhavan. Hariprasad said party workers will conduct a two-month door-to-door campaign from June 30 to ensure eligible voters are not left out. He alleged the BJP was attempting to delete names from voter lists. Clarifying that the party is not opposed to SIR, he said it questions its intent, citing similar concerns raised in Tamil Nadu, Bihar and West Bengal. He claimed even economist
Amartya Sen
’s name had been deleted from voter rolls. Targeting the
RSS
and BJP, he accused them of divisive politics and ignoring key issues affecting farmers, workers and youth. He said there was no objection to removing fake voters, but alleged that genuine voters were being targeted. Former council chairman VR Sudarshan alleged BJP was focusing on constituencies it narrowly won. MLAs, MLCs and party functionaries attended.
