Former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda criticised the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for its alleged failure to control crime and the worsening law and order situation in the State.

Mr. Hooda alleged that the graph of crime has been continuously rising ever since the BJP came to power in the State. “The situation today is such that every person in the State feels insecure. Crime has gone out of control, and it seems that the mafia, and not the government, is running the State. Haryana, which was known for prosperity and greenery during the Congress tenure, is now known for hooliganism and bullets,” he said in a statement.

Hitting out at the BJP, the Congress leader said, “Before 2005, Haryana faced similar law and order challenges, but when the Congress government assumed power in 2005, it issued a stern warning to criminals to either abandon crime or leave the State. We didn’t just make promises, we acted on them. The Congress government successfully eradicated gangsters, mafia, and miscreants from Haryana,” he said.

‘Law and order have deteriorated’

“As a result, for a decade, law and order were maintained, creating a secure environment that attracted significant business investments. This made Haryana the top State in India for job creation, investment, and development. However, since the BJP took power, law and order have deteriorated, causing businessmen to leave the State one by one and deterring new investments,” he added.

“The poor law and order situation in the State is worrisome, for which the BJP government is to be blamed. The rise in crime is a clear testament to the fact that the BJP government has failed to provide security to the public,” he said.
