Contractor murder: Accused shot in legs by Haveri police 

Haveri police shot two murder accused in the legs following an assault on them by the duo on June 26.

The incident occurred near Kondoji Cross in Hangal taluk of Haveri district when the police were bringing the arrested persons to Haveri, Superintendent of Police Anshukumar said.

The duo were arrested in connection with the murder of contractor Shivanand Kunnur in Shiggaon on June 24.

The prime accused Nagaraj and his accomplice Ashraf attacked the police while being brought to Haveri, forcing Circle Inspector Sathyappa Malagond and Sub-Inspector Sampath to shoot them in the legs, the SP said.

The accused were initially treated at the district hospital in Haveri before being shifted to KMCRI Hospital in Hubballi for further treatment.

Three others have been arrested in connection with the murder, which was allegedly the outcome of a property dispute.
