The Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes may be heating up, and the Miami Heat are increasingly being viewed as the frontrunners for the two-time NBA MVP.

According to ESPN, Antetokounmpo has made Miami his preferred destination, with talks between the Heat and Milwaukee Bucks reportedly intensifying over the last week.

The report claims the 31-year-old has “focused on wanting to be a member of the Miami Heat" as speculation surrounding his future continues to grow ahead of next week’s NBA Draft.

While Antetokounmpo remains under contract through the 2026-27 season and holds a player option for 2027-28, uncertainty has surrounded his future ever since Milwaukee signalled it would be open to trade discussions.

The Bucks endured a disastrous 2025-26 campaign, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Antetokounmpo was limited to a career-low 36 appearances after suffering a hyperextended left knee in March, an injury that effectively ended his season.

Despite the setback, Giannis remains the face of the franchise. The 2021 NBA champion is Milwaukee’s all-time leader in games played, points, rebounds, assists and blocked shots, making any potential departure one of the biggest moves in league history.

Why A Miami Deal Isn’t Simple

Miami’s interest is obvious. Pairing Antetokounmpo with three-time All-Star Bam Adebayo would instantly create one of the NBA’s most formidable frontcourts.

The problem lies in the finances.

Tyler Herro’s contract remains a significant hurdle. Milwaukee reportedly has little interest in absorbing the shooting guard’s $33 million salary, forcing both teams to explore multi-team trade structures.

The Three-Team Blockbuster Proposal

One proposal, floated by NBA analyst Evan Sidery, would involve the Memphis Grizzlies as a third team.

Under the scenario:

  • Miami receives Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis
  • Milwaukee lands Ja Morant, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Pelle Larsson, plus multiple first-round picks.
  • Memphis acquires Tyler Herro and Nikola Jovic.

For Miami, the deal would represent an all-in championship push centered around Giannis and Adebayo.

For Milwaukee, it would trigger a full-scale reset built around Morant and a collection of young talent and draft assets.

For Memphis, it would provide a possible exit strategy from the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Morant while bringing in a proven scorer in Herro and a developmental prospect in Jovic.
