The councillor of ward 4 in Udhagamandalam Municipality (UMC) has written to the municipal commissioner urging action against a construction project, which she claims is being carried out illegally.

C. Anitha Lakshmi, the councillor, in her petition to the municipal chairman said that a construction project was being carried out near Kil Kodappamund along the Kotagiri Road. She alleged that a water pipe was being installed illegally without the knowledge of municipality officials.

She said that a case was being pursued against the construction by a retired IAS officer and said that continuing the construction before the completion of the case was illegal. She added that the municipality had already issued stop-work notices to the managers of the construction site, but that these notices had been ignored.

She alleged that the municipality’s pipeline was damaged and attached to a pipeline supplying water to the construction site. The councillor urged the UMC chairman to issue directions to disconnect the pipeline.
