Covid-19 related Deaths in Andhra Pradesh: Following the recent cases, the district medical and health department has intensified surveillance and monitoring in Kadapa to detect any further spread of the infection.

Eight Covid-19 cases have been reported in Andhra Pradesh’s YSR Kadapa district in recent weeks, while two patients who tested positive for the virus have died during treatment.

The fresh cases have prompted health authorities to increase surveillance, deploy rapid response teams and collect samples from people in affected areas. Hospitals have also been asked to keep isolation facilities ready as a precaution.

Two Covid-Positive Patients Die During Treatment

One of the patients was a 52-year-old man from the Rajampet area of Kadapa. He had developed fever and cough and later tested positive for Covid-19. He died while undergoing treatment at Christian Medical College in Vellore.

In a separate case, a 43-year-old man from Kadapa was admitted to the Government General Hospital with health complications. He subsequently tested positive for the virus and died while being treated in the Covid-19 intensive care unit.

A 25-year-old medical student from Kadapa Medical College has also tested positive and is currently recovering in home isolation.

Samples Sent For Genome Sequencing

Following the detection of new cases, the Health Department sent special rapid response teams to the district. Samples were collected from around 40 people in areas where infections had been detected.

Of these, 18 samples have reportedly tested negative, while results for the remaining samples are awaited.

District health officials told a recent Zilla Parishad meeting that eight active Covid-19 cases had been recorded in the district. Samples have also been sent to a laboratory in Pune for genome sequencing to determine the variant involved and study its transmission pattern.

Masks To Be Made Compulsory In Crowded Places

Andhra Pradesh District In-Charge Minister Savitha has directed officials to take immediate measures to contain any further spread of the infection in Kadapa.

During a phone conversation with District Collector CH Sridhar and District Medical and Health Officer Ravi Babu, the minister instructed authorities to strictly enforce Covid-19 guidelines in areas reporting cases and increase public awareness.

Officials have also been directed to make masks compulsory in crowded places, including hospitals and other public areas.

People experiencing fever, cough or breathing difficulties should be identified and moved to isolation facilities where necessary, the minister directed.

Families Of Infected Patients To Be Tested

Authorities have been asked to immediately test the family members of those who have contracted the virus. Anyone who tests positive should be shifted to an isolation ward, while others requiring observation should be monitored in home isolation.

Sanitation efforts have also been stepped up in affected areas, with cleaning and bleaching operations underway.

Covid Preparedness Alert Issued Across Andhra Pradesh

Following the developments in Kadapa, health authorities have issued a Covid-19 preparedness alert across Andhra Pradesh.

District administrations have been directed to strengthen testing, surveillance, reporting and infection control measures. Hospitals have also been told to ensure that isolation facilities, beds and necessary medical support are available.

Authorities have advised people not to panic but to remain cautious, maintain hygiene, wear masks in crowded places and seek medical attention if they develop Covid-like symptoms.
