CP mandates 30% station staff for night nakabandi, patrolling

Nagpur CP Vishwas Nangre Patil

Nagpur: CP Vishwas Nangre Patil has made it mandatory for 30% of police station staff to hit the roads for night nakabandi and patrolling. Also, cops have been urged to conduct sweeping combing operations across the city twice a week.Sources said the CP visited police stations in the night unannounced and participated in the combing actions on a few occasions. With the city witnessing 4 murders last week, senior police in-charges may face music if body offenders, like murderers, assaulters and so on, are found involved in serious crimes. In order to strengthen night-time policing, the CP wants zero tolerance towards repeat criminals. Under the new guidelines, every police station must now conduct nakabandis within their designated jurisdiction every night.

All kiosks and shops are required to down shutters by 10pm in line with existing norms.A key highlight of the directive is that DCP-level officers will closely monitor action in the night on ground zero and initiate immediate measures wherever required. “A DCP will lead the night operations with a specific action plan. This plan must be narrated before CP Nangre Patil as per his directions. By 5am the following day, a detailed action-taken report has to be shared with the CP for his approval,” said sources.

In addition, all police stations have been instructed to check private security guards at every establishment to ensure they do not doze off while on duty. Police personnel have been directed to rope in citizens keen to collaborate with the force in maintaining law and order. Officials believe that consistent nakabandis, mandatory patrolling, timely reporting, and swift action against lapses will create a safer environment in the city.
