CPI welcomes govt job offers to Karur tragedy victims

Veerapandian said the party welcomed the move by chief minister Joseph Vijay.

Trichy: CPI state secretary M Veerapandian on Monday welcomed the TVK govt’s expected decision to provide a govt job to a family member of each victim of the Karur stampede.Speaking to reporters in Trichy ahead of a meeting of the CPI state executive committee and district secretaries, Veerapandian said the party welcomed the move by chief minister Joseph Vijay. Vijay is scheduled to visit Karur on July 10, where he is expected to meet the victims of the Karur stampede and hand out govt jobs to the family members of the victims.Veerapandian criticised the Union govt over the continued rise in petrol and diesel prices. “They are failing to control inflation,” he said. Further, he called on the Tamil Nadu govt to completely waive agricultural loans.“While implementing election promises may take time, there should be no compromise on maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of women and children,” he said. Condemning Tamil Nadu governor Arlekar’s recent review meeting in Madurai, he alleged that such actions amounted to interference in the functioning of the elected state govt.The CPI leader also announced a series of nationwide protests against price rise, including a padayatra from Aug 6 to 15, public meetings on Aug 16, and a rally in New Delhi on Sept 1, in which party cadres from Tamil Nadu will participate.
