CPM demands use of Vizag steel for Amaravati projects

Visakhapatnam: The CPM Visakhapatnam district unit has demanded that the state government use steel produced by Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) for construction activities in Amaravati and other projects across the state.

It also sought the allocation of 10 acres of land in Amaravati for establishing a market yard for VSP.CPM Visakhapatnam district secretary M Jaggu Naidu urged the government to abandon plans to enter into agreements with private companies for the supply of steel for Amaravati’s construction. He expressed concern that such decisions would adversely affect the future of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. “The steel plant already has marketing yards in major cities such as Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad, and Amaravati also requires such a facility.

I urge chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu to immediately enter into an agreement with the steel plant management on these issues,” he said.Referring to the recent accident at VSP, the Left leader said nine days have passed since the tragedy and the victims’ families are still awaiting support from the chief minister. He demanded that the state government announce an ex gratia payment of Rs 1 crore to the families of the deceased workers and Rs 50 lakh to those injured in the accident.
