CR commissions Kavach on Godhani-Teegaon stretch

Nagpur: Central Railway on Monday commissioned the indigenous Standard Kavach Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system on the Godhani–Teegaon section of Nagpur Division, marking a major step towards improving safety on one of the busiest and most challenging railway corridors in the region. The system is designed to reduce the risk of accidents caused by human error. The Godhani–Teegaon stretch is part of the high-density Itarsi–Nagpur route and includes a difficult ghat section known for steep gradients, heavy train traffic and complex operating conditions. Railway officials said deploying Kavach on this section will significantly enhance operational safety and efficiency of both passenger and freight services.Standard Kavach is an indigenously developed ATP system that continuously monitors train movement, assists loco pilots in maintaining permissible speeds, prevents Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD) incidents and automatically applies brakes if required. The commissioning forms part of Indian Railways’ nationwide drive to modernise its safety infrastructure using indigenous technology under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
